چکیده

The objective of this study is to prospectively evaluate the seroepidemiology maedi-visna (MV) infections in intensively reared dairy sheep. A total 407 purebred Chios and Lacaune ewes from four farms were surveyed for two consecutive years serologically tested semiannually with an indirect ELISA at pre-mating pre-lambing. farms’ structure management practices similar animal traits (age, breed, production stage) recorded. Based on serological status, morbidity frequency measures estimated, categorized as constantly seronegative, seropositive, seroconverted, seroreverted, or animals intermittent presence antibodies. During study, period seroprevalence, incidence rate, cumulative 84.8%, 33.6 new cases per 100 sheep-semesters, 64.2%. Isolation of Maedi/Visna Virus from a Sheep in Japan

Maedi/visna (MV) is a lentiviral disease of sheep caused by the maedi/visna virus (MVV). Although MV is prevalent in many countries, it had not been reported in Japan. In 2011, however, three sheep in northern Japan were reported to be seropositive against the MVV antigen, indicating a persistent MVV infection. In the present study, we isolated MVV from one sheep to confirm MVV infection and co...

Maedi-visna virus infection in sheep: a review.

The maedi-visna virus (MVV) is classified as a lentivirus of the retroviridae family. The genome of MVV includes three genes: gag, which encodes for group-specific antigens; pol, which encodes for reverse transcriptase, integrase, RNAse H, protease and dUTPase and env, the gene encoding for the surface glycoprotein responsible for receptor binding and entry of the virus into its host cell. In a...

Extensive rearing hinders Maedi-Visna Virus (MVV) infection in sheep.

Maedi-Visna Virus (MVV) seroprevalence and its relationship with housing and mode of rearing of replacement ewe-lambs was investigated in 38 non-randomly selected sheep-flocks in Spain. They included extensive lamb-producing Manchega cross-bred flocks raised almost permanently at pasture, semi-intensive Latxa dairy flocks housed 2-8 months/year and intensively raised Assaf dairy flocks housed m...
